THIS IS ABOUT MY SCHOOL
The medical school at the University of Nigeria is one of the most prestigious medical schools in the country. The University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital is about the only centre in Nigeria where Open Heart Surgery is performed on a regular basis. Presently the hospital is sited at a temporary site in the "Old Park" area of Enugu behind the Main Market.

The permanent site is nearly complete. It is sited at Ituku-Ozalla about 20km from Enugu. Clinics hold at Ituku-Ozalla and the faculty of Dentistry is almost wholly there.

UNTH holds a number of firsts such as;
  • First Open Heart Surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa in 1974
  • First Cardiothoracic Centre of Excellence in Nigeria in 1983
  • First Successful Quintuplet delivery
  • First Siamese Twin seperation in Nigeria
and lots more....

Generally doctors in Africa are trained to be very good clinicians who rely more on a meticulous history and physical examination than on sophisticated investigations.

MY COLLEAGUES

about time you met some of em......

Dumebi
"Dum Dum" is a good friend. Likes to talk with people and also has great ideals which she lives up to. She encourages people a lot not to give up and has a great smile.
.
.
.
Golibe
It is pronounced GO-LEE-BAY. Well recently I "yabbed" him with the word "Gullible" in the "yab". Golliwog is brilliant and sharp witted with a great sense of humor. We are working on a research project together. Obviously he has a great future. One quality about him is striking - HIS EVERLASTING YOUTHFULNESS. We think he will remain this young looking till he is 40.
.
.
.
Chibudibu
Chibudibu is my neighbour. He saved my life 2 days ago. I got a high fever spiking 39.5 and was far from the medical center. He tidied the rest.
Chibudibu is laughter prone. He has a very active tickle centre but he doesn't take lightly to practical jokes.
.
.
Chinelo
Chinelo is very quiet. Her voice is like a song ie. she sings out every word she says. (Try talking to her and you will notice it).

Been quite a while since I posted last.

Ophthalmology is a lot of fun. It is full of high tech equipment and the doctors are very meticulous about everything.
